As promised, 2008 will be a renewed initiative for the development of the tech ecosystem in mandaluyong. to Start the year,  i will be creating a separate page for tech schools. I’d like to coin Boni Avenue as Boni tech alley. Aside from the feasibility of hosting tech startup in the Ortigas area, Boni avenue’s stretch is where you can find all three schools, a good recipe to stir a busy tech hub.

Register your Business Name

November 10, 2006

The building that is under construction beside the Kaban ng Hiyas (or the Library)  is  going to have a one-stop-shop service for business startups. According to Bong the Mandaluyong Chamber of Commerce will be operating the service that includes the registration of your business name which of course under the the DTI supervision. At any rate you may apply or check the availability of your business name from DTI’s website. As soon as its available i suggest you register it even if you’re not starting your business. this is to ensure that you can use it.

The online registration will take a couple of days depending how long you pay the fee on any Metrobank. The documentations are sent to your mailing address. So you better schedule the leadtime when applying for other permits that requires the DTI document. On the otherhand going to the DTI office at Buendia, Makati will ensure 2 days at the minimum and you can start using your business name. This way you are able to mingle with different folks aspiring to be in the world where they control their destiny. You can also use this opportunity to network with them. Who knows the one sitting next to you can be your supplier or customer.

So go on! Register your business!

I took a break, not KitKat!

November 6, 2006

I took a 2-weeks vacation leave from work. No laptop no internet, just my mobile phone and just personal calls. I can never remember i have done this before, but it’s worth it. I missed tons of emails as a came back today, well that’s the punishment of having to relax here at Amazing Thailand! My wife’s friend operates a tour and travel company so we got a very good deal, and it’s not the peak season yet so it’s a double. If you plan to have a vacation, let me know i’ll refer you to Jaki.

The other thing i did was meet with my TM Team mates. The group maintains the Technology Management blog,  we define and provide how-to’s about technology.  It’s our 2nd meet and it’s always a requirement to have it in a wifi free environment, and we had it at Robinsons Mall Pioneer. It gives me the idea of posting a directory of wifi hotspots in Manda!

‘This is to intercede in behalf of Mr. Primitivo “Tivo” Mallillin III, student-researcher enrolled in the Master in Technology Management from the University of the Philippines, who wishes to conduct information-gathering as part of his learning requirement and for personal endeavor in the community.’- sgd City Administrator

I’ve got a ticket, well actually a permit letter to conduct my reserach in the city’s local government units (lgu). I also finally met the Big Daddy himself, quite a guy very accomodating and full of enthusiasm. We discussed about the the existing project of his office (but of course, everything’s under the mayor’s program : ) in line with the president’s One Town, One Product (OTOP) project. Coincidentally Mandaluyong is pursuing to produce ICT related products and services. Is it pure luck or as i was pitching with the honorable councilor, Mandaluyong is ideal for this. Call center hub today, tech-based companies tomorrow, that’s we are heading.OTOP

I’ll be detailing the inital project as soon as i get a handle of the schedule from Bong!

Good Start…Slo

October 9, 2006

I was quite optimistic when i said it was a good start. Well apparently, I kind of set my expectations too high : ) I need to remind myself that these guys are busy bodies so i need to be patient. Big Daddy was not available that morning. He have a breakfast meeting according to his staff, i arrived 9:15a for our 9:30a supposed meeting. Not quite sure if technology had a hand on his scheduling or just simply conflict of schedule. Anyway i stepped out of his office 5 before 10a deciding we’ll not have enough time even he arrives at 10a he has a 10:30 council session, a speedy meeting will not help. And so i re-scheduled — will call Bong for a follow up.

The request for the Mayor’s office went to the City Administrator?! They asked me to call after a day or two : )

The congressman’s office hotline is quite busy so by the time i got the call in, it’s tuesday and it’s past his People’s Day. So Andy Natividad asked me to call next monday for another shot. Apparently the honorable Congressman is going to Germany by mid of October so next week’s chance might be adjusted after All Sain’ts Day.

I’m betting my luck on Big Daddy’s office because so far he has the concrete projects that deals with my paper :) But it’s worthwhile to pursue all 3.

mandaluyong logoMy first task into this development, I requested for an audience with honorable’s Councilor Noel “the Big Daddy” Bernardo - the Chairman of Trade, Commerce and Industry, Mayor Neptali Gonzales II and Congressman Bejamin Abalos Jr. This is to consolidate the programs each offices are doing.

  • Big Daddy’s staff scheduled me next monday to meet the councilor before the council session. Bong, his staff graciously even invited me to attend a a round table meeting with the DTI representative and Mandaluyong chamber of commerce in which they conduct regularly for the development of ICT industry in the city. They are having an ICT week on the mid of November. I hope i can attend or at least get a schedule and activities for the post.
  • the mayor’s staff asked me to call on tuesday afternoon for the confirmation
  • the congressman’s staff asked me call monday afternoon to confirm a slot on the congressman’s weekly People’s Day : )

What a good start!
